HVOF thermal projection pilot plant (CDAL)

The main objective of this infrastructure is to develop new coatings that allow to expand the life of the components and reduce the effect of the aggressive conditions of work they are subject to (tearing, corrosion, temperature, etc.)

High-speed thermal projection equipment (HVOF process), for the obtaining of coatings (metal or metal-ceramic "Cermets"), where the dust-shaped material is introduced and projected at high speed above the surface of the component. Development of coatings with good wear resistance and/or corrosion.

 

Project Welding Alloys España S.A.

Challenge: The purpose of this project is to propose Cermet type coatings, obtained by high -speed thermal projection (HVOF process), cobalt free, as an environmentally cleaner and more economically more sustainable alternative.

Solution: The project with Welding (2020-26) is studying and developing coatings for components that have to work in highly aggressive conditions, such as: high temperature, strong thermal gradients, high pressure, high tensions, presence d 'an oxidizing and/or corrosive atmosphere, and to adhesive, erosive or abrasive wear. The project with Welding Alloys (2021-2026) is studying Cermet type coatings that do not have cobalt in their composition, an element declared detrimental to the EU for the health of operators and economically expensive, such as: WC-FECRAL, WC- NIMOCFECO or WC-NI.  

 

Project AMPO S.A.

Challenge: The purpose of this project was to propose Cermet type coatings, obtained by high -speed thermal projection (HVOF process), high hardness and wear and tear resistance, but with a low coefficient of friction.

Solution: In the project with AMPO (2015-16), coatings for high technological valves were developed for applications in the most demanding industries (mining, petrochemical sector, etc.). To reduce the coefficient of friction, mixtures of cermet pulses (WC-COCCOC) and self-publishing particles (graphite) were projected in different proportions.
