Electrochemistry Laboratory
This laboratory studies the chemical reactions that occur at the interface of an electrical conductor, and with it the changes associated with the passage of electrical current through it, involving electron transfer or oxidation-reduction reactions (RedOx ).
This laboratory is part of the Innovation in Materials and Molecular Engineering Biomaterials for Regenerative Therapies (IMEM-BRT) group. The activity of this laboratory takes advantage of the great diversity of electrochemical assays to develop and study materials with electrochemical properties applied in various areas. These materials include conductive polymers that can be electrochemically synthesized and which, in turn, are used as components in supercapacitors, batteries, flow cells (fuel cells), electrochemical sensors, controlled drug release systems, actuators, electroactive platforms in tissue engineering, among many others. These and more applications are evaluated by electrochemical techniques such as Galvanostatic Charge-Discharge (GCD), Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV), Chronoamperometry (CA) or Chronopotentiometry (CP). In addition, it is also possible to evaluate the resistivity of a material by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and its interactions with other bioactive molecules (proteins, peptides, DNA...)
We have the infrastructures of the Barcelona Multiscale Science and Engineering Research Center (BRCMSE) of the UPC, as an affiliated group.
