Microscopy Laboratory - Besòs
The Electron Microscopy laboratory of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the Diagonal - Besòs Campus serves both the UPC itself, as well as different public and private entities, and collaborates closely with the Multiscale Center and the groups of BBT, CIEFMA, e-PLASCOM and PROCOMAME research from the Department itself.
Its main activities include the study of surfaces, defects, wear, fatigue, fracture, etc., of metallic, ceramic, polymeric and naturally occurring materials using electron microscopy techniques (SEM and TEM), diffraction spectroscopy. X-ray (EDS) and crystallographic texture analysis by backscattering electron diffraction (EBSD)..
This laboratory has recently benefited from a public infrastructure tender and will acquire ultra-high resolution scanning electron microscopy equipment with different X-ray diffraction spectrographs capable of detecting and quantifying light elements, an electron diffractometer high-speed backscatter and an in-situ nano indenter.
